Shadows is continuously evolving since its origins. Version 6 brings major new features, in particular in the 3D visualization and on astrolabes.
Improvements in the 3D view
3D visualizations are now faster and more reactive. The quality of rendering and the simulation of style' shadow were improved, for a better user experience. A new option displays the ray of light in order visualize the path from the Sun to the tip of the style and to the sundial plate. This ray of light is animated at the same time as the shadow, in function of the date and time; it is a useful educational tool to better understand sundials.
New universal analemmatic sundial
This analemmatic sundial draws several ellipses for different latitudes. The reading of time is done on the ellipse corresponding to your latitude.
New multiple sundials in 3D
A new 4-face pyramidal multiple sundial (tetrahedron) is now available. Another remarquable multiple sundial is based on an icosahedron, a polyhedron with 20 faces, offering 19 actual sundials. This makes a total of 8 mutiple sundials available in 3D in Shadows Pro.
"Dragon" hand on the planispheric astrolabe
The planispheric astrolabe now displays the Sun's hand, the Moon's hand and a third one for the crossing nodes of the Sun and Moon apparent orbits. When the 3 hands coincide, an eclipse occurs, Moon or Solar.
New universal Rojas astrolabe
In addition to the universal astrolabe called Saphea Arzachelis, the Rojas astrolabe completes the series. It works for all latitudes thanks to a ruler sliding on an alidade.
3D visualization of the planispheric astrolabe
The simulation of planispheric astrolabes reaches a new summit in Shadows Pro with the visualization and animation of the astrolabe in 3D. The rete, ruler and alidade rotate independantly and allow a realistic simulation in 3D of the astrolabe, as if it was a real object.
