Orientation of a solar pannel

The efficiency factor of a solar pannel is a physical parameter of its solar cells. But this data is not enough when you want to anticipate the amount of electricity produced by the pannel during the year. Its orientation or reclination and the incidence angle of Sun rays will impact the production of electricity. By optimizing the orientation of a solar pannel, you can improve its efficiency factor.

Efficiency graph of a solar pannel

The graph show the efficiency R of a solar pannel of a given orientation and reclination, installed at a given location, in function of the moment of the day. These curves can be drawn for the solstices when the Sun's altitude is maximum or minimum, and for the equinoxes. The mean factor is obtained by integrating the curve during the whole day.

Shadows allows the user to configure the parameters of the graph.

This calculation is really useful to estimate differences of efficiency between several positions of the pannel, or to verify if a roof oriented towards a given azimuth can be suitable for a solar pannel.
